Global food security is one of the key areas of the statutory activities of the Center for Strategic Initiatives and Analysis (CSIA).

Currently, NGO “CSIA” is implementing a number of programs focused on introducing innovative solutions in agriculture to enhance food security, improve the adaptation of agricultural production to climate change, and reduce soil degradation.

 

WHY IT MATTERS

Agriculture in the United States and around the world is facing increasing pressure due to climate change, with yield instability becoming one of the main economic risks for farmers.

Among the key challenges are:

  • Significant annual crop losses due to increasingly frequent and severe droughts

  • Decline in soil organic carbon content

  • Rising costs of irrigation

  • Degradation of soil structure and reduced water-holding capacity

Today, water is increasingly becoming the primary limiting factor for agricultural productivity.

THE SOLUTION

We are pleased to present a unique soil restoration and water efficiency technology — BIOGEL Soil Infrastructure Technology (SIT), which enables:

  • More efficient use of water

  • Reduced dependence on irrigation

  • Decreased chemical load on the soil

  • Restoration of biological soil fertility

  • Increased yield stability under drought conditions

BIOGEL (SIT) is a systemic solution for adapting agriculture to water scarcity and climate risks.

 

WHAT IS  BIOGEL (SIT)

  • BIOGEL is not a conventional fertilizer or a standard agricultural input - It is a technology designed to transform the soil into a biological infrastructure for water retention.

  • The logic of the technology is not short-term plant nutrition, but rather a change in the functional state of the soil:

Application of BIOGEL → increase in active carbon (POXC) → activation of the soil microbiome → improvement of soil structure → enhanced water retention → higher Water Use Efficiency (WUE) → more stable yields.

  • Thus, BIOGEL functions as a soil system modifier — a technology that enhances the natural functions of the soil.

WHAT RESULTS DOES THE TECHNOLOGY DELIVER?

Based on field observations and practical application, the technology demonstrates the following effects:

SCIENTIFIC APPROACH

The technology is based on the concept of **soil-mediated physiological regulation** — that is, physiological support of the plant through improvement of the soil environment.

This includes:

  • Reduced transpiration stress

  • Potential influence on stomatal regulation

  • Higher resource use efficiency by the plant

The technology is viewed as part of a new approach to agricultural production, where the soil is not merely a growing medium, but an active infrastructure of productivity.

 

PRACTICAL  EXPERIENCE

  • BIOGEL has over 12 years of practical application in Ukraine. The technology has been used on more than 600,000 hectares, particularly in regions with high drought risk.

This allows us to consider BIOGEL not as an early-stage laboratory development, but as a mature technology ready for scaling and international validation.

 

WHAT WE PLAN

Within the framework of NGO “CSIA”’s international program, further scientific and field validation of the technology is planned in the United States, including:

  • Greenhouse and microcosm trials

  • Field trials under different water regimes

  • Assessment of the economic impact for farmers

  • Preparation for scaling and local production

 

The goal is to confirm the technology as an effective tool for:

  • Increasing water use efficiency

  • Reducing dependence on irrigation

  • Stabilizing crop yields

  • Adapting agribusiness to climate change
